Apple and Netbooks
Nowadays, Netbooks are so common that I think Apple needs to get one out in the market soon.
They've got the US$1699 Macbook Air with a nice 13" screen weighing under 3 pounds. That's nice, but I'm guessing there's something in store for us come February.
Steve Jobs is taking "medical leave" til end of June 09, so that can't be good. Apple needs to tap into the lower end market segment who wants the simplicity of the Macintosh. With "Snow Leopard" aka Mac OS 10.6 on the way, promising a lighter weight O.S. the possibility for a Netbook is better than ever.
I'm guessing:
Atom gen2 (1.8ghz) processor
2GB RAM
160GB Hard Drive (from the iPod)
Wifi
iSight
8.9" Screen
Apps for iPhone / iPod touch will run through an emulator made specially for this model.
Price will be higher than its rivals, at US$899. They will probably make a US$1099 model with GPS and 3.5G HSDPA connectivity and TV-out. The premium model comes in 3 exotic colours, black (graphite), red (Ferrari red) and Blue (also their popular iPod Nano colours)
They won't be worried about jeopardising their 13" Macbook sales because people still need full function laptops with optical drives and a decent graphic card (The 9400m)
Oh, another thing. iPhone NANO.
1 size: 16 GB, 3" touch-screen (320x240 pixels). 3 x 3 icon arrangement available worldwide (including Malaysia) July 2009. 3.5G, 2mp camera, no GPS, but surprise surprise (FM Tuner!) No plans. US$399 (*that's RM 1500 after tax). The American (and 70+ countries) regular iPhone will be upgraded, with a 5mp camera and a secondary front camera. An Atom low-powered processor will be used on this one, while the old batch goes into the Nano!
